SimpleFoodie Mint Julep Recipe. A minty drink with bit of sweetness and a bite of bourbon that is the perfect drink for watching the horse races.

Ingredients
Mint Simple Syrup | ||
water | 1/4 cup | |
superfine sugar | 1/4 cup | |
mint (fresh) | 1/4 cup | |
Julep | ||
mint (fresh) | 1/4 cup | |
ice | 1 cup | crushed |
bourbon | 1/2 cup |
Directions
- For the mint simple syrup bring the water in a saucepan to a boil over high heat. Add the superfine sugar and mix until it completely dissolves. Add the fresh mint. Cool completely before using it in the rest of the recipe.
- For the julep drop the mint into a tall drinking glass.
- Using a spoon or muddler mash up the mint until it forms specks.
- Fill the glass to the top with the crushed ice.
- Add the bourbon until it reaches halfway up the glass.
- Pour in the simple syrup until it almost reaches the top of the glass.
- Stir with a spoon.
- Garnish with some fresh mint leaves.
Notes
To get a full flavored mint simple syrup allow the mint to steep in the syrup overnight in your refrigerator.
